Lessons

Lessons through Pianoforte, Inc. enrich the private-lesson experience – taking that knowledge one step further – to the art of making music with peer musicians.

In the world today, the reality of a building a solo career as a concert artist is a dream-come-true. Most musicians earn a living either through chamber music – or in the teaching arena (which is the very reason why chamber music degrees have been developed at top universities within the U.S.).

Chamber music involves partnering – a collaboration between members of smaller ensembles. It teaches students to converse artistically through phrasing, dynamic inflection and harmonic / rhythmic idioms – all components of the language of music. Collaboration builds confidence -- each student brings a distinct role to the ensemble. Each partner will learn to cue – and to discern the “quality” of touch with regard to specific instruments. Counting / sight-reading skills will improve and score-reading will develop. Listening skills will evolve as each partner begins to think in terms of timbre. Additionally, music becomes a social outlet – especially for pianists, who are no longer performing “solo”.

Pianoforte, Inc. welcomes keyboard, string and instrumental students who are currently studying privately (through the private studio of their choice). Performance at the intermediate / advanced level is required. Chamber groups are formed based on a common level of artistry – rehearsals take place weekly. Performance opportunities range from the private studio recital / showcase –to visibility through state-wide conferences / out-of-state festivals. Pianoforte also sponsors an annual Young Artists Showcase (March / April). Pianoforte also sponsors the annual Young Artists' Festival in May which includes evaluation, public performance and Indiana Public Radio air-time.
